Moon Over Buffalo

Texas Repertory Theatre's play about a repertory theatre

Playwright Ken Ludwig's 1995 situation comedy Moon Over Buffalowas the subject of a D.A. Pennebaker documentary spotlighting legendary comedienne Carol Burnett's star turn in the play - her eagerly anticipated return to the Great White Way after 30 years in Hollywood. The documentary revealed Burnett's struggle with a script she found to be weak. With such an insinuation coming from Burnett, we figured that was as good as a death sentence for the play, a backstage comedy filled with slapstick humor and mistaken identity. But Texas Repertory Theatre is reviving the show, hoping to bank on the work's broad mainstream appeal. Of course, it doesn't hurt that it's a play set in a repertory theater. 7:30 p.m. today. The play runs Thursdays through Sundays, through August 22. 14243 Stuebner Airline Road. For information, call 281-583-7573. $25 to $45.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: July 29. Continues through Aug. 22, 2010
