The first thing you need to know about the Alley Theatre’s production of Pygmalion is that it isn’t just a staged version of the popular Audrey Heburn/Rex Harrison film. No, this Pygmalion is much darker, exploring the rigid class divisions and earnest sexual politics of English society at the turn of the 20th century.

Alley Theatre resident company member Todd Waite appears as Henry Higgins, a phonetics professor who, on a whim, bets a friend he can take a lowly flower girl and change her into a refined young lady. Elizabeth Bunch is Eliza Doolittle, the young woman in question.
