Hold the phone, Pete. Under the Skin debuted to rave reviews at Telluride? I was at Telluride. It was an abundance of riches this year with Gravity, All is Lost, 12 Years a Slave, The Past, Nebraska, Prisoners, Inside Llewyn Davis, Tim's Vermeer, Particle Fever, The Lunchbox, The Wind Rises, Gloria, etc. So the standard question in line of "What's good?" was useless. Instead, I took to asking, "What's terrible and is something I should avoid?"Â
The answer about 75% of the time was "Under the Skin"Â and about 10% of the time it was "Nothing is terrible...but I haven't seen 'Under the Skin' which I heard is pretty aweful."
Sure, it had some very devoted and vocal fans but the overwhelming reaction from the non Glazer fanboy set was very negative.Â
If you don't believe me take a look at Michael's Telluride Film Blog. Though he admired it, even he called it "one of the most devisive and least well-received films of the fest."
Not saying you won't like it but....
