The name ยBrook Oliphantย doesnยt sound very romantic, but then again, compared to ยOrdinary Joe,ย it is a bit of an improvement. Or is it? In Houston playwright Carl L. Williamsยs Poetic License, which premiered in 2002, Martie is married, living an ordinary life with her regular-guy husband. Ho hum, yawn, yawn. But then, ta da, the suave, smooth Brook Oliphant comes along, and suddenly everythingยs turned upside down. A university professor, Brook had romanced Martie when she was his student, writing love poems for her. When Martie and a friend of hers (whom Brook also romanced with poetry) discover that heยs still using the same tired rhymes to seduce students, they plot their revenge. What rhymes with ยbeat downย?
