Five Crazy Rapper Fashion Trends
Dphil Spanglishman needs a Mac endorsement.
Rappers are known for setting trends with their signature fashion styles. Some of these ideas are utterly outrageous and scream "Pay me attention!" Other eye-catching trends are worn by rappers to send out a message to fans.
The latest "trend setting" rapper is Dallas based rapper Dphil Spanglishman, a straight 19-year-old male that wears lipstick. Spanglishman's motive behind wearing women's make-up is to blur gender lines with the XY movement he has started. Here's a list of five rappers with their own fashion movements that, whether they contained a message or not, were just plain absurd.
5. Cam'ron and the color pink.
Surely the color pink is not forbidden on men, however excessive pink the way Cam'ron did it circa 2003 is a no-no. Cam had pink Timberland boots, pink bandanas, pink fur coats and even a pink Range Rover which he decided to sell because, believe it or not, it drew too much attention. Cam'ron claims he started the pink overload because he didn't think other guys would be down to imitate it. Surely enough Cam started a trend and even raps about it: "Glare and think how I got the whole New York wearing pink."
4. Nelly and his facial band-aid.

During the earlier part of his career, Nelly started to sport a band-aid under his left eye. The band-aid started making a few appearances in videos and then it wouldn't go away. It began as a tribute to his jailed friend and fellow St. Lunatic, City Spud. Nelly want to make sure when City saw him in interviews and videos that he was represented. I think a t-shirt would of sufficed.
3. Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and her condom glasses.
During the early 1990s HIV awareness was very important to artists. Many people were perplexed when TLC's rapper Left Eye wore a condom on her eye. She wore this contraceptive on her face to send out the message of safe sex at all times. Eventually the condom caused controversy amongst parents and when the style of the group changed, Left Eye opted for wearing a band-aid under her left eye, like Nelly.
2. Kriss Kross and backwards clothing.
This early 1990s rap duo were pioneers in ridiculous rap fashion fads. If you grew up in the '90s, your first taste of rap music may have been Kriss Kross' "Jump." You also may have been guilty of following their backwards-clothing trend. Not only was this style ridiculous, but it made it damn inconvenient to go to the bathroom.
1. Souljah Boy and sunglasses with words.
When Souljah Boy came on the scene in 2007 he had the entire country doing the "Crank That" dance. Unfortunately, he also influenced some teens to follow suit when he decided to write on his sunglasses in white permanent marker. Exactly how could he see through those things?
