Unlike the genre it’s named for, the Blues for Food Drive revels in the positive, combining good food and good music for a good cause. Fans can munch on free barbeque while they dance all day to the music of such Houston blues luminaries as Sonny Boy Terry (Joe “Guitar” Hughes’s former sideman master mouth-organ player), and Texas Johnny Brown (the former Bobby “Blue” Bland guitarist). For a younger generation of blues enthusiasts, Snit’s Dog and Pony Show, fronted by Kevin “Snit” Fitzpatrick of The Holisters almost-fame, offer up their brand of bluesy rockabilly. Other performers include John McVey and the Stumble, MOJOFROMOPOLIS and Benny Brasket. There’s a full 12 hours of live music on the schedule.

Admission to the all-day event is covered by either a cash donation or a canned food item, and all proceeds benefit the Houston Food Bank. The blues are all about lamenting your troubles; these blues masters aim to chase those troubles away — for you and Houston’s hungry. Noon. Shakespeare’s Pub, 14129 Memorial Drive. For information, call 281-497-4625 or visit www.shakespearepub.net. Free (donations suggested).
