When Fargo, North Dakota, native Amber Preston plays the Joke Joint Comedy Showcase this weekend, her crowd will understand that while, yes, she’s rocking that Tina Fey, “librarian sass” vibe, she’s got her own style of funny. Her résumé’s bullet points include winning awards at both the Great American Comedy Festival and the revered Gilda’s LaughFest, as well as being named one of New York Magazine’s “5 Comedians to Watch.”

A sample of Preston’s humor: “[I realized that] country and rap music are totally the same: ‘My lady left me, stuck here with my dogs’ and ‘Bitch’s gone. Where ma dawgs at?’ It’s a barbecue and a pickup truck, or a barbecue and a bouncing car. Everybody has their bling-bling, either on their belt buckle or up in their grill. [And] neither side is willing to take responsibility for Kid Rock.”
