Attorney Guillermo “Billy” Bravo has two problems in the novel The Name Partner, written by Carlos Cisneros. First, Billy is trying to make partner in his law firm, but he’s been handed a case that’s a ticking time bomb. He has to defend a pharmaceutical company against charges that its new drugs caused a murder-suicide. Legally, Billy thinks he’s got it handled, but he doesn’t know that the partners in his firm have a vested interest in making the case disappear and that the pharmaceutical company has got quite a few dirty secrets to hide. Second, Billy just found out that a one-night stand he had about a month after he got married led to a child he never knew about. Now he’s got baby-mama drama, and he’s sure his wife will divorce him as soon as she finds out. So he’s got a double-crossing law firm, a dirty pharmaceutical company, a new kid and two women with the power to make his life miserable – sounds like a regular week in the life of a lawyer. Don’t worry if you miss him this time; Cisneros is scheduled to come back for Houston’s Latino Book and Family Festival. 6:30 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet.
