University of Houston junior Erica Fletcher will be presenting her documentary Marianismo during Navigating the Cultural Labyrinth: Latinas’ Lives Explored Through Literature and Film. Marianismo discusses the factors at play in the exceptionally high rate of HIV/AIDS infection of Latinas as compared to that of their white counterparts. Is it culture? Is it language? Sexual mores? Whatever the reason, Latinas are eight times as likely to be infected as white women. And that’s a statistic worth scrutiny. Also appearing is author Stella Pope Duarte, who will discuss her latest collection of stories, Women Who Live in Coffee Shops and Other Stories. 6:30 p.m. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
