The fact that thereย’s any green space in New York City at all is due in no small part to William H. Whyteย’s 1980 landmark study on the use of the cityย’s open areas, in which he and his team studied, analyzed, measured and counted every imaginable factor that could tell them why one space worked and another didnย’t. Social Life of Small Urban Spaces was made ten years after the study, and is a tour of public urban spaces. It features Whyte talking about his favorite things: green space, cities and the possibility of change. 7 p.m. Rice Cinema, Rice University, 6100 Main.
