There should be a good explanation why a band warrants a full sentence for its name, and Eric Elbogen of Say Hi to Your Mom has a doozy. “I was abducted by aliens,” Elbogen told the online magazine In Music We Trust. “And as I was about to be beamed down back to Earth I had this sort of epiphany because one of these aliens came up to me and said, ‘Say hi to your mom,'” who was apparently abducted 20 years earlier. Elbogen, the sole permanent member of Say Hi to Your Mom, displays some other eccentricities. He records and mixes his remarkably smooth, low-key rock on a self-made computer in his New York City apartment. In his break-out song, “Let’s Talk about Spaceships,” he professes that he’d rather discuss UFOs, despite his bad experiences on them, than his romantic woes, and he recently recorded Impeccable Blahs, an entirely vampire-themed album.
