The Brooklyn-based artist Aurora Robson proclaims to be ย“in loveย” with string theory. But before everyone who is still traumatized by high school physics hightails it out of here, wait. Her new installation at Rice Gallery features colorful, playful creations for which physics is merely a means to a beautiful end. ย“The Great Indoors,ย” like many of Robsonย’s works, uses small bits of material looped together to create something structured and large, making for an installation thatย’s both visually pleasing but enticing to think about, too. Not only is Robson smart, sheย’s green: In the past sheย’s made a ย“junk-mail collageย” and turned 20,000 plastic bottles into art.

Robson will be in attendance at the exhibitย’s opening at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 18, and will lead a gallery talk at noon on Friday, September 19. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through October 26. 6100 Main.
