The Brooklyn-based artist Aurora Robson proclaims to be ยin loveย with string theory. But before everyone who is still traumatized by high school physics hightails it out of here, wait. Her new installation at Rice Gallery features colorful, playful creations for which physics is merely a means to a beautiful end. ยThe Great Indoors,ย like many of Robsonยs works, uses small bits of material looped together to create something structured and large, making for an installation thatยs both visually pleasing but enticing to think about, too. Not only is Robson smart, sheยs green: In the past sheยs made a ยjunk-mail collageย and turned 20,000 plastic bottles into art.
Robson will be in attendance at the exhibitยs opening at 5 p.m. Thursday, September 18, and will lead a gallery talk at noon on Friday, September 19. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Through October 26. 6100 Main.
