Stephen Mallatrattย’s The Woman in Black is famously terrifying. Based on Susan Hillย’s novel, the gloomy tale features spooky places like the Eel Marsh House and the Nine Lives Causeway. And, of course, thereย’s a ghost, whose ghastly purpose is too terrible to reveal. But suffice to say, the story is about a man named Arthur Kipps, who is haunted by the image of a woman dressed in black. When he starts to peel away the secrets of the womanย’s story (nobody in the little town where the woman wanders dares say a thing), all sorts of dire consequences glimmer in the dark and dreadful future.
