You might have a little trouble finding ยVibrant: Houston Artists in City Halls.ย The 32 paintings, drawings and photographs that make up the exhibit are spread over several locations in Houstonยs City Hall. Some of them, including Sandi Seltzer Bryantยs piece Untitled, are in the mayorยs conference room. The painting is made up of four squares that are filled with line after line of vibrant color, each seeming to struggle for space. Margaret Colvinยs Blush is also in this room. Much more subtle than Bryantยs Untitled, the abstract painting has thick, pale rose- and -cantaloupe-colored lines.
Youยll find more art in the underground tunnel that connects City Hall with the City Hall Annex, including Chuy Benitezยs photographic narrative Tecolote, New Mexico and Mary Beth Woiccakยs painting Lightening, an abstract filled with lines that resemble writing over washes of color. Theresa DiMennoยs Lycoris Floral, a highlight of the exhibit, is hung in a hallway on the fourth floor. A digital print on canvas, Lycoris Floral is the extreme magnification of five yellow-tipped stamen reaching out from the center of a lush pink flower.
