You might have a little trouble finding ย“Vibrant: Houston Artists in City Halls.ย” The 32 paintings, drawings and photographs that make up the exhibit are spread over several locations in Houstonย’s City Hall. Some of them, including Sandi Seltzer Bryantย’s piece Untitled, are in the mayorย’s conference room. The painting is made up of four squares that are filled with line after line of vibrant color, each seeming to struggle for space. Margaret Colvinย’s Blush is also in this room. Much more subtle than Bryantย’s Untitled, the abstract painting has thick, pale rose- and -cantaloupe-colored lines.

Youย’ll find more art in the underground tunnel that connects City Hall with the City Hall Annex, including Chuy Benitezย’s photographic narrative Tecolote, New Mexico and Mary Beth Woiccakย’s painting Lightening, an abstract filled with lines that resemble writing over washes of color. Theresa DiMennoย’s Lycoris Floral, a highlight of the exhibit, is hung in a hallway on the fourth floor. A digital print on canvas, Lycoris Floral is the extreme magnification of five yellow-tipped stamen reaching out from the center of a lush pink flower.
