Get your fortune told and a book signed by Victoria Laurie at the launch party for her new novel Ghoul Interrupted. A real-life psychic, Laurie includes intuitive readings for members of the crowd during her appearances. In fact, she counts on her intuitive powers and experiences to create her characters and plots.

โ€œThe whole series began around my practice as a psychic intuitive,โ€ Laurie says in a taped interview. โ€œI never had any serial killers come after me, I was never kidnapped by the mobโ€ฆbut I have had some very interesting sessions with clients and Iโ€™ve done some police work.โ€

You can tell by the titles that Laurieโ€™s books have an edge to them โ€” previous novels include Whatโ€™s a Ghoul to Do?, Ghouls Gone Wild and Demons Are a Ghoulโ€™s Best Friend. In Ghoul Interrupted, protagonist M.J. Holliday, who leads a reality television show called Ghoul Getters, gets called to New Mexico, where an ancient demon is waging war.

Laurie, who lives in Austin, is a busy, busy writer, churning out a new book for each of her three series every year. Her next release is Oracles of Delphi Keeper: Quest for the Secret Keeper, due in February. 6 p.m. Murder by the Book, 2342 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-524-8597 or visit www.murderbooks.com.
