Though Mardi Gras is, by definition, a laissez-faire event, here’s a parade for which you can — quite literally — put on the dog. Horses and cats and chickens and things will all be itching for a spot in the 7th Annual Krewe of Barkus and Meoux Mardi Paws Parade. Participants not only get the honor of hoofing it in front of an adoring crowd in their festive tees and finery, but also supporting The Animal Shelter and Adoption Center of Galveston, Inc., who, let’s face it, must be dog-tired after the last hurricane season. Participants line up at noon; parade begins at 1 p.m.
