It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since we were first introduced to Netflix’s Wednesday—Tim Burton’s take on the Addams Family’s signature diabolical daughter. But time soars like the ravens of Nevermore. And this week, Ortega-ites (or however you’d describe Jenna Ortega’s loyal fan base) are flocking back to the streaming giant for the continuation of Burton’s gothic vision.
Showrunners and co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar return alongside Tim Burton, who directs the first of four new episodes debuting August 6. Part two of the season will follow on September 3. We pick up where Season 1 left off, with Wednesday Addams hailed as the unlikely savior of Nevermore Academy.
Jenna Ortega reprises her breakout role, joined once again by Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia. Several new cast members join this season, including the legendary Joanna Lumley as Grandma Hester Frump, Morticia’s formidable mother and the head of Frump Mortuaries. Fred Armisen returns as the ever-odd Uncle Fester.
Another big addition: Steve Buscemi plays Principal Dort, the new head of Nevermore. And in a meta twist, Christopher Lloyd—the original Uncle Fester from the 1991 Addams Family film and of course Doc Brown from Back to the Future—joins as Professor Orloff, the school’s longest-serving teacher.
This time around, Wednesday must come to terms with her newfound fame and the pressure of being Nevermore’s savior, all while confronting a terrifying vision: the possible murder of her best friend, Enid Sinclair. Season 2 promises to be just as enthralling—and perhaps even darker—than the first.
Fried Chicken and Family Feuds Return in The Chicken Sisters
Keeping with the Season 2 theme, Hallmark Channel’s The Chicken Sisters also returns this week. Based on the bestselling novel—and a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick—this quirky drama follows two families locked in a generational feud over rival fried chicken restaurants. And if there’s one thing we know in the South, it’s that we take our football—and our chicken—very seriously.
The series stars Skylar Fisk and Genevieve Angelson, with seasoned support from Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me, Seinfeld) and Lea Thompson (Back to the Future, Caroline in the City).
I caught up with the co-stars ahead of the premiere. Both opened up about what it’s been like to return to the kitchen for Season 2.
“Having a second season, you kind of have the freedom to follow all these people down the rabbit hole,” Malick said. “All of us had issues and things we had to overcome. There was a lot of freedom this year, and I think there was also a lot more humor.”
Thompson added director role to her credits for this series. “It invested me in a different way,” she said of working from the director’s chair. “I appreciated these wonderful actresses so much and enjoyed the story. It was just delicious to come back, and I know the audience will feel the same way.”
The Chicken Sisters Season 2 premieres August 10 on the Hallmark Channel.
Necaxa: A Deep Dive Into Mexico’s Most Storied Football Club
Since Disney’s acquisition of the FX Networks in 2019, some feared the network’s reputation for edgy, original content might suffer. But if anything, FX has ramped up its creative output with acclaimed series like The Bear, Dave, and continuing its long-running hit It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Now, while its latest entry may not be the next scripted phenomenon, it’s something tailor-made for fans of sports and documentary storytelling. FX is bringing something truly special with Necaxa, debuting August 7 on FXX and streaming the following day on Hulu.
The series follows Eva Longoria—San Antonio native and Desperate Housewives star—as she works to reignite the soul of Club Necaxa, one of Mexico’s oldest and most storied football clubs. Joining her are co-owners Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), fresh off their Wrexham success story.
Necaxa dives into a turbulent chapter in the club’s history: front-office shakeups, major injuries, and a relentless push to reclaim former glory. For sports fans , this is a behind-the-scenes gem with heart, hustle, and real stakes that make you feel like you’re along for the ride and a member of the club yourself. The show will bring you in whether you’re a soccer fan, observer or if you’ve never appreciated the majesty of the beautiful game.
