The verdict is in, and those of you who predicted a slap on the wrist for Cynthia "Cindy" Stewart will have to eat crow. The former elementary school guidance counselor from the San Antonio area has been sentenced to six years in prison after she was caught sending lurid photos and racy Facebook messages to a 15-year-old boy last year.
According to the San Antonio Express-News, the arrest affidavit stated that Stewart "admitted sending close-up images of her (private area) to MV1 via her cellular telephone." The boy told investigators that he had received 20 to 30 such images.
Before her Chris Hansen-esque misadventure, Stewart, 43, had been a guidance counselor at Olympia Elementary School in Converse, just outside of the Alamo City. She was fired in November after the pics came to light.
Before it was taken down last year, the school's online bio described Stewart as a married mother of an eight-year-old child.
The case came to light when the boy's parents noticed that he had been texting Stewart at all hours of the day and night. Late one evening, the boy's parents caught him in the act, and the boy spilled the beans. Police later examined his cellphone and found at least some of the images still on there.
Stewart was convicted of online solicitation of a minor. In addition to her prison time, she must also register as a sex offender.
