Houston and the surrounding area woke up this morning to snow and sleet. Weather prognosticators got it right when they said it was coming.

They were also right to move up the arrival timetable from midnight to around 10 p.m. Many areas tstarted seeing snow and sleet by 9 p.m.

CenterPoint was showing 1,811 customers without power at 4 a.m. Tuesday and that 14,974 customers had power restored in the last 24 hours. Most continuing outages were along the coast and northwest Houston according to its tracker map.

The winter storm warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday as snow continues to fall in the area Temperatures in the early morning we in the 20s, but were expected to rise to just above freezing later in the morning.

In an update this morning, Eric Berger reported on Space City Weather that Houston roadways were slick after the overnight precipitation that ranged from a slight dusting to three inches or more.ย  While temperatures were in the mid to upper 20s but northerly winds added a wind chill factor that took temps into the teens, he said.
