Chances The Next Issue Of UH's Alumni Magazine Will Feature A Photo of Renu Khator With The "BP Buggy": 100 Percent

In recent history, BP has faced a few public relations challenges. But the company has a vehicle for refurbishing its image: the BP Buggy.

It’s been gifting them all over the place, to parks, nature centers and universities. And the latest recipient is the University of Houston, which received its very own BP Buggy at a ceremony during halftime of Wednesday’s men’s basketball game.

The Buggy, valued at around $10,000, has two electric motors, with a battery system augmented by solar power. “The Solar Buggy is the first vehicle of its kind: a powerful, four-wheel-drive ATV that augmented its battery system with clean, sustainable energy from the sun,” BP spokesman Daren Beaudo tells Hair Balls.

It’s in use as an education tool, in zoos where its quiet operation
doesn’t disturb animals, and in research projects. Here in Houston,
Discovery Green has two of them employed with “landscaping chores.”

As for the Buggy just gifted to UH, it will be used by university president Renu Khator.

UT nicknamed its buggy the Rockhound. No word what UH has mind. May we submit “Renu-able”?
