The Astros won again last night. That makes two straight. Who knows, if the Astros find a way to play the Reds for every game the rest of the season, they just might find a way to win the pennant.
The Astros are 5-1 against the Reds. The Astros are 10-16 against the rest of the league. Oh, and, once again, the Astros came from behind to win the game. But that damn Lance Berkman ruined that eighth-inning-come-from-behind streak by hitting a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to put the Astros up 6-5. Brad Lidge, I mean Dan Wheeler, would enter the ninth inning with a 7-5 game, and proceed to give up a home run to Brandon Phillips before getting out of the game with the save of a 7-6 Astros victory.
And speaking of Brad Lidge, guess who got the win? If you said Brad Lidge, you win the prize. (Hey, Press guys, what are the prizes anyway? I think a year-long subscription to the Press would be a good idea.) Lidge, however, only pitched a third of an inning. So it’s not like he really worked for it. And that means that Wandy Rodriguez is still without a victory this season – he hasn’t won a game since last July.
I need to brag about Hunter Pence. Are you guys watching this kid? Did you see that triple? Lance Berkman might’ve hustled that into a single. And if Phil Garner’s going to go the late inning double-switch for defensive purposes, is it really a good idea to replace Pence in center with Jason Lane?
The 15-17 Astros are still in third in the NL Central. The Brewers continue to win – those bastards, don’t they know that they’re supposed to lose? And the Cubs have come from nowhere to move into second place.
The Astros play the Reds tonight at 6:10. And Woody Williams will once again attempt to get his first win of the season. – John Royal
