First, it was Christ. Now Mary’s has been resurrected as well.

Last month, it looked as if Mary’s Lounge, the venerable Montrose gay bar, would be closing its doors forever (see “Zipping Up Mary’s,” December 26). But Michael Gates, owner of Michael’s Outpost, stepped forward to pay off Mary’s debts and tentatively agreed to purchase the bar from owners Cliff Owens and Gaye Yancey.

The pending sale should mean that the gay landmark will remain open, says Outpost director of operations Jamie Carmen. Some changes could be in the works, including a ladies’ night for lesbians. Perhaps the new management will also paint a few female faces into the bar’s infamous mural of the leather guys.
