Jake Meyers out with an injury? It's fine! Credit: Jack Gorman

Well, that was fun. If you like watching your team scorch the highest payroll in baseball on their home field while they are booing your team’s icon who is slapping them for three homers, this was a great holiday weekend for you.

Last Week Record: 6-1
This Week Opponents:ย Guardians (40-48), Rangers (44-46)
Current Record: 55-35 (1st in AL West – 7.0 games)

Three Astros named to All-Star team.

The Astros will be well represented at the 2025 Midsummer Classic with Josh Hader making his sixth appearance. Jeremy Peรฑa and Hunter Brown will both appear in their first All-Star games. You could argue for Framber Valdez and maybe Isaac Parades, but the three who made it are clearly deserving.

One more injury, who cares?

Jake Meyers left Sunday’s game in Los Angeles with some kind of weird injury the Astros won’t discuss and will probably turn out later to be some kind of rare severed artery that was first reported as “soreness.” Taylor Trammell came in and robbed Freddie Freeman of extra base hits in the eighth. There’s “next man up” and then there is whatever this insane season is for the Astros.

How long can it continue? Absolutely nobody knows, but considering their recent record against division leaders, maybe forever?

National League absolutely dominated.

Speaking of division leaders, the Astros wiped out all three from the National League in the last two weeks, taking two of three from the Cubs and sweeping the Phillies and Dodgers. They also took two of three from the woeful Rockies. They still have the Diamondbacks, Marlins and Braves on the schedule. Maybe they should try to add a few more.

Feasting on an upcoming schedule.

Speaking of what is ahead, the Astros have the easiest closing schedule in baseball. Their toughest series include the Tigers, Yankees, Blue Jays and, potentially, Mariners. But, otherwise, a slate of the aforementioned dregs of the NL along with a LOT of games against the worst division in baseball…the AL West. If they even get marginally healthier in the next few weeks, this could be one of the most surprising teams in baseball.
