We consider ourselves to be connoisseurs, tastemakers, as it were, when it comes to judging acronyms. And when the following press release landed in our inbox, we knew we had a winner.

With application in hand and approval granted by the parade committee, it’s official, GALLO, Houston’s Gay and Lesbian Latin Organization will be part of the Cinco de Mayo Parade in Houston, Texas on Saturday, May 5th at 10:00 AM.

“This is a huge milestone for us,” says Abel Rodriguez, executive director, “for years I have attended and been a spectator of the Cinco de Mayo parade and never have I witnessed a Gay and Lesbian Latino Organization be part of it.”

So you’ve got the Gay and Lesbian Latin Organization, which spells out GALLO. Which means rooster in Spanish. And we all know another word for rooster. Man, that’s good. – Keith Plocek
