-
Braised octopus at Cafe Azur is exemplary. -
The parmesan-crusted rack of lamb at La Table -
The “burnt ends” at Southern Goods come from beef belly, so they’re a little more tender and yielding than a traditional brisket cut. They’re perched atop a bed of grits and greens and topped with pickled onion. -
The cha gio, a Vietnamese-style egg roll wrapped in rice paper wrapper, was outstanding at Le Colonial. -
The spectacular Silver Salver at Hunky Dory is a big, gleaming antique tray filled with fine charcuterie, cheese, relishes and crusty bread. -
The greens-n-cheese pie at Helen Greek Food & Wine is not only a work of art, but delicious as well. -
The braised shallots with ricotta are surprisingly good at Enoteca Rossa. -
KA Sushi in The Heights returns to the hot list for its buzzy atmosphere and great review. -
Freelance food writer Mai Pham really enjoyed the seabass with soybean sauce at Ginger & Fork. -
Seasoned crab fingers amid a landscape of oysters at Bernadine’s -
The smoked double-cut pork chop had a root beer glaze at State Fare. -
The Cheese Enchilada a la Felix at State of Grace. Can’t. Get. Enough. -
Midtown Barbecue is up and running, serving classic, Texas-style smoked meat selections like ribs and brisket. -
We tried three of Eight Row Flint’s tacos. All were good (including the vegetarian Brussels sprouts version, far left), but the braised beef cheek (center) and Berkshire pork renditions were truly exceptional. -
Doughnuts and coffee are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Morningstar’s offerings. -
The Fume pizza, one of several delightful choices at Pizaro’s. -
Cane Rosso is well-known for its nationally-recognized pizza, but their extensive menu includes this hefty burrata ball. The red pepper-spiced greens in the foreground, by the way, are exceptional. -
The “Marshmallow Soup” is a signature dish at Rise. Despite the name, it’s a savory dish of carrot-tomato bisque with mini goat cheese soufflรฉs standing in for the marshmallows. -
The new, hot cheeseburger maker in Houston is Willet Feng at Kuma Burger. You know to always watch out when there’s a new kid in town, right? -
Every barbecue place seems to have a meat it excels at, and at Pappa Charlie’s, it’s the pork ribs. -
The spicy noodles dish swims in a pepper-laden sauce at Uyghur Bistro. -
Brasserie 1895’s rogan josh is as tender as it is unexpected at this new restaurant in Friendswood.
