Fast Eddie’s Billiards & Sports Bar, one of our favorite pool halls in Houston, held simultaneous competitions throughout Texas on July 3. As many as ten contestants were eligible to vie for the glory (and prizes) at each location during Fast Eddie’s Independence Day Hot Dog Eating Competition. We sent a photographer to cover the event at the 12344 Gulf Freeway location, and it wasn’t pretty. Things turned out better for the spectators; they enjoyed the show plus $2.75 Budweiser and $4 Wild Turkey.

Fast Eddie’s Billiards & Sports Bar, the Best of Houston® winner for Best Pool Hall in 2003, hosted an Independence Day Hot Dog Eating Competition at all of its Texas locations. Here we see the judge going over the rules for the three contenders at the 12344 Gulf Freeway location in Houston. -
Competitors eye each other for eating techniques, tips and tricks. -
While this may have been a grueling competition for some, the spectators enjoyed $2.75 Budweiser and $4 Wild Turkey all day and all night on July 3. -
Nowhere does it state in the rulebook that the hot dogs and buns have to be consumed simultaneously. -
Could abundant glasses of water be the secret? -
A clear early victor begins to emerge. -
Pro tip: Dunking the buns in water helps with speed and agility. -
A quick squeeze to remove the extra liquid and it’s down the hatch. -
Even the judge enjoyed the showmanship aspect of this competition. -
For the win! The top wiener winner took home the cash from the pool of all $5 entry fees, plus one full month of free pool at Fast Eddie’s Billiards & Sports Bar, preferred seating, and a T-shirt provided by Budweiser. -
We’d say our female contender certainly held her own. -
And the winners are: Fast Eddie’s Houston – Carlos Ceron / Fast Eddie’s Austin Round Rock – Daniel Siguero / Fast Eddie’s Odessa – Felix Rodriguez / Fast Eddie’s San Antonio Embassy – Sal Purido / Eddie’s Tavern Bossier City – Jacob Mangum / Fast Eddie’s San Antonio Culebra – Daniel Lerma / Fast Eddie’s Edinburg – Ram Rod / Fast Eddie’s Beaumont – Jeshua Romanvelez / Fast Eddie’s Amarillo – Justin Picket / Fast Eddie’s Braun – Randy Requejo / Fast Eddie’s McAllen – Javier Flores / and Fast Eddie’s Lubbock – John Paul Perry. The folks at Fast Eddie’s believe life is meant to be good. And they’ve got the stats to back that up. The Fuqua location (12344 Gulf Freeway) has 22 eight-foot pool tables and four nine-footers. -
Fast Eddie’s continues the fun with juke boxes, darts, Golden Tee and Buck Hunter. They’re serving up the grub daily from 1 p.m. until 2 a.m. Here’s a look at the menu: popcorn, New York-style pretzel, New York-style pizza, fried mini corn dogs and “The Original Cut French Fries.” -
Menu offerings at Fast Eddie’s include beer-battered cheese sticks, Buffalo shrimp bites, blazing onion rings, mac & cheese bites, “Ye Olde Chicken Tenders,” smokin’ hot wings, toasted onion green beans and fried pickle spears.
