Mac Chin’s has become Shuck Daddy’s (1511 Shepherd, 713-861-9888). “We opened Mac Chin’s as our first and only venture into upscale dining; now we’re sticking to casual dining, where we belong,” said Robert McKinley of Mambo Corporation.
“We completely gutted the place and turned it into a casual, relaxed, fun, upbeat seafood place close to the Washington corridor. We’re not just another oyster bar, we’re also an ice house, a sports bar, a Cajun seafood place — we’re all of those things.” Obviously, Shuck Daddy’s isn’t taking itself too seriously. “If you behave yourself,” says McKinley, “we might give you a utensil. Otherwise, you can eat everything we make with your hands.” Prices are reasonable, and you can bring your own wine (there’s a $7 corkage fee).
Dish enjoyed the hot “Rock-Ur-Fella” oysters with spinach and melted cheese and the terrific fish tacos served with crunchy coleslaw. For next time, the ceviche and fried oyster poor boy look mighty tempting…
