“Designed by Architects”

Margo Grant Walsh likes heavy metal

To most people, a coffee pot is simply the first thing you reach for in the morning. But to others, it’s a functional object that could also be a piece of art. Margo Grant Walsh, curator of the exhibit “Designed by Architects: Metalworks from the Margo Grant Walsh Collection,” is part of that second group. One of the country’s premier interior architects, Walsh has spent a lifetime collecting metal objects designed by others in her industry, such as coffee pots, brooches, jewelry and eating utensils, amassing more than 800 examples from 17 countries. More than 50 of her finest pieces will be on display in this exhibit. MFAH director Peter Marzio says Walsh is “obsessed” with silver, copper and mixed metals that appeal to her design eye. (Does that mean she likes regular or decaf with her morning artwork?) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 12:15 to 7 p.m. Sundays. Through August 3. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7300 or visit www.mfah.org. $3.50 to $7.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: March 15. Continues through Aug. 3, 2008
