Slide Jam: Ariane Roesch and Jane EiflerTwo artists explain their work (kinda)By Olivia Flores AlvarezPublished on April 16, 2008 at 1:40amIts hard to squeeze three years worth of work into an hourlong talk, but artist Ariane Roesch says shes willing to give it a try at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston during the monthly installment of Slide Jam (painter Jane Eifler will also participate). Roesch, whose work deals with the effects of technology on everyday life, will discuss the genesis, development and meaning of several of her pieces. Ill show my most recent installation, from a project in Berlin, called Networking, she says. The piece, which wraps around a large column in a gallery, features silkscreen images of a man and woman working at computers. Roesch strings colored yarn from his eyes, through the computer, around the column, and into the back of the womans computer, finally connecting with her eyes and mouth. What exactly does that mean? Roesch says thats up to the viewer. Ill say how I arrived here, and what I think is the meaning, but really, everyone must make their own decision. We were afraid she was going to say that. 6:30 p.m. Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, 5216 Montrose. For information, call 7132848250 or visit www.camh.org. Free.
