Viewer Request Program

Cinema Bomar takes suggestions for its latest program of obscure 16mm films

Cinema Bomar's Viewer Request Programshowcases a simpler time, when half the fun of shopping was dressing up and predictions of the future included a holo-TV in every home. For today's screening, the collectors of 16mm "industrial, educational and ephemeral film" - who, with the rest of the Domy Books movie night family, won our Best of Houston¨ 2009 award for Best Film Series - have assembled a selection of their most requested flicks. You'll enjoy the wonders of nature, grilled chicken and world-class acting in Maine Barbecue(1950s, eight minutes), a production of the state's agriculture department. You'll pick up a few decorating tips from Color Harmony for Your Home (1950s, 18 minutes), an artifact from a time when respectable women wore gloves and hats while shopping. And you'll learn what the present was supposedto look like in 21st Century (1967, 25 minutes), which features Walter Cronkite as narrator. 8:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer.
