The bright and witty Art garnered just about every theater award there is to…uh, garn when it opened on Broadway in 1998. Written by Yasmina Reza, the playwright behind God of Carnage and Unexpected Man, Art gleams and sparkles, and makes you laugh out loud.

This production by Texas Repertory Theatre features the excellent trio of Joshua Estrada, Tom Long and Rob de los Reyes. The three are best friends who battle over the fourth main character, an ungainly, white-on-white abstract painting one of the men has bought for a ridiculous amount of money, as a sign, he hopes, of his sophistication and good taste. To his surprise, his two friends have rather dubious reactions to the purchase.
The comedy beguiles, recalling the best of Burns and Allen, Jacques Tati and Neil Simon. Eighty minutes fly by, and when it’s over you realize you’ve been smiling all the while. Now, that’s art. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through May 27. 14243 Stuebner Airline. For information, visit www.texreptheatre.org.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: May 3. Continues through May 27, 2012
