Comicpalooza, the convention about all things pop culture, has established itself as a major player on the expo circuit. Fans experience all manner of magnificent geekdom over the convention’s three-day run. Topping the list of celebrity attendees this year is the one and only George Takei. Known for his role as Sulu on the original Star Trek series, he’s since become a symbol of gay equality and a Facebook fanatic with loads of shares of humorous graphics and photos. Kristin Bauer, Pam from HBO’s True Blood, will also be on hand, no doubt keeping a tight lip about the next season of the hit series.
Many acclaimed comic writers and artists are attending, including Christopher Yost, who gave Houston its first superhero this year in the form of the Scarlet Spider. The series follows a reformed clone of Peter Parker as he brutally protects Houston from a rogues’ gallery that sees the city as easy pickings without a large superhuman presence.

Be sure to catch matches by the International Quidditch Association. Sure, the YouTube videos look ridiculous, but watching Texas Tech trounce SHSU last year was way more fun than you’d think people running around with sticks between their legs would be. 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
