The Gate

If you're a fan of rampant paranoia regarding Satanism slyly infiltrating children's minds — and honestly, who isn't? — then you'd be hard-pressed to find a better film than 1987's The Gate, directed by Tibor Takács. An adorably teenaged Stephen Dorff accidentally unlocks the power of Hell in his house thanks to a combination of spilt blood, heavy metal music and some underlying context about leaving your kids home -unattended. Ray Harryhausen--inspired stop-motion demons attack in force, but surely the power of the Holy Bible and love can beat back any assault, right? It's a schlocky, ridiculous film that manages to stand the test of time as an excellent example of a kid's horror movie laden with bits of social propaganda.
