This very well may be one of the only times in history that a keg stand will be considered performance art.
The Monsters of Beer Festival, scheduled to go off in mid-November, is looking for creative types to transform ten empty and functional kegs into some sort of art piece.
"We would like to see what the artistic community can do with these rather unfortunate looking receptacles," says the nonprofit organization Live It BIG in an official statement.
No word if performing a keg-stand on an artsy keg will make you extra artsy or just let on that you're drunk.
The event -- scheduled to take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at Guadalupe Plaza Park, 2311 Runnels -- will jump-start Houston Beer Week, which commences that day and continues through November 18 at various locations. Tickets for the craft-beer shindig go on sale on a to-be-determined date in October.
The one catch-ish aspect for artists: The kegs, which will be available for purchase during a silent auction, must remain functional. Sales proceeds will go to Live It BIG, which supports various start-up charities in the Houston area.
August 20 is the application deadline; selectees will be announced on August 31 via the Monsters of Beer Web site. For submission details, e-mail Cathy Rascoe at [email protected].
