Best Choir: Pride Chorus Houston

Once known as Bayou City Performing Arts, composed of the Gay Men's Chorus of Houston and Bayou City Women's Chorus, the newly minted Pride Chorus Houston has emerged as one of the not-to-miss vocal ensembles in the area. Consisting of a small-but-mighty corps of both trained and novice vocalists, Pride Chorus Houston's shows are filled with class, sass, and a touch of "yaaaasssss!"

The organization itself is also a marvel in today's performing arts sector. Made of completely volunteer singers, "the little choir that could" has collaborated with the Houston Symphony, participated as guest musicians across the country, and performed at Carnegie Hall.

When performing, the group's programs offer something for everyone. The songs are sometimes irreverent and other times vocal masterclasses, fluctuating with ease between the reverently sacred and deliciously profane while always putting on a memorable show. And when they're finished performing, the singers exemplify hospitality by always greeting attendees after the show.

More so, the feeling of belonging couldn't be more evident in Pride Chorus Houston. When asked about why they joined, members often speak of finding a family where they are accepted for who they are are, surrounded by likeminded music enthusiasts. They truly sing from the heart, and it shows in all the chorus does.
