For his latest book, Texas-born journalist Bryan Mealer went a long way from home all the way to the west coast of Africa. Mealer left a cushy job in New York to become a foreign correspondent in Congo, covering one of the most brutal, and forgotten, wars in recent history. In his book, All Things Must Fight to Live: Stories of War and Deliverance in Congo, he details the continued struggle in the former Zaire. More than four million lives were lost in the war, with no good guys on either side of the complicated political field. Mealer will discuss his harrowing time in the Congolese battlefields today at 7 p.m. Brazos Bookstore. 2421 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-523-0701 or visit www.brazosbookstore.com. Free.
