Three seldom-seen treasures hit the screen for Gallery Talk: The Artistยs Eye with Andrea Grover. For her installment of the monthly series, The Aurora Picture Show co-founder unearthed a trio of rare Joseph Cornell films from the Menilยs stores. ยThere are so many films in the archives that no oneยs aware exist,ย she says. ยAlso, I donยt think most people are aware that Joseph Cornell made experimental films.ย Grover chose Jackยs Dream and Thimble Theater, two shorts which utilize surrealistic narrative and puppetry in a collage-style format. The film was shot by Cornell, known better for his art boxes than his filmmaking, and edited by his assistant-turned-filmmaker Larry Jordan. The third film, Cornell, 1965, is Jordanยs cinematic homage to his mentor. ยItยs got the only existing footage of Cornell,ย says Grover. 3 p.m. The Menil Collection, 1515 Sul Ross.
