Anyone who thinks traditional opera is a yawner needs to check out the plot of Opera in the Heights’ latest production, Norma. The show finds supposedly celibate priestesses getting freaky, dudes getting frisky with virgins, and even some attempted suicide. The story takes place in Roman-occupied Gaul circa 50 BC, where high priestess Norma (played by soprano Lori Lind) has secretly borne two sons to her lover Pollione, a Roman proconsul. Thing is, Pollione has the hots for temple virgin Adalgisa. Initially, Adalgisa promises Norma that she’ll keep ’em closed despite Pollione’s advances — but you know how those things go. Will the temple be a-rockin’? Find out at 7:30 p.m. Show runs through February 4. For tickets and showtimes, call 713-861-5303 or visit www.operaintheheights.org. $26 to $36.
