Film director and Austin resident Terrence Malick won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival forThe Tree of Life
over the weekend,according to the Associated Press
Tree of Life, a family drama starring Brad Pitt, was filmed in several locations in Texas, including Houston, Dallas, Austin and Waco.
Though it won the festival's highest prize, Tree of Life got a mixed reception from moviegoers at Cannes, receiving both boos and applause from the aisles, according to the Los Angeles Times.
