Ever had a party ruined by a boorish guest? If, like us, you have, you will especially appreciate Texas Repertory Theatre’s production of The Nerd by the gifted playwright Larry Shue (The Foreigner). In the comedy, architect Willum Cubbert is having friends over for dinner, plus an important client. The group’s joined unexpectedly by Rick Steadman, a man who saved Willum’s life in Vietnam. Rick, who’s dull, humorless and socially awkward, is threatening a crucial business relationship. Grateful that Rick saved his life, Willum nonetheless can’t wait to get his cumbersome visitor out of his house.
