• And speaking of recording, Ramon Medina at Nonalignment Pact, wonders why Space City Records, a label he's never heard of, is leading the nominees for Best Local Label in the Houston Press Music Awards.

• Over at 29-95, Andrew Dansby reviews Rocks Off contributor Jef With One F's book about his time in The Black Math Experiment, The Bible Spelled Backwards Does Not Change the Fact That You Cannot Kill David Arquette. And Jef wrote us over the weekend to remind us that this week is the last that he'll be donating 100% of his proceeds from the book's sales to Girls Rock Camp. Rocks Off will (finally) have our own review, and interview with Jef, later this week.

• On Saturday, Houstonians/Seattlites Blueprint will reunite for a benefit for Alex Arizpe, who has been in a few Texas punk bands, has cancer and needs help paying his medical bills.

• Also Saturday is the Neopopstreetfunk Festival II in the Heights at Gallery M Squared, 339 West 19th Street. Featuring tons of local fine artists.

• Remember Lake Jackson punk band Macho Machachos? Err, neither do we, but Texas Punk Treasure Chest has posted a 1990s demo from the band, who opened for Screeching Weasel at the Axiom in 1992. We wonder if any of them are still around and planning on attending the Screeching Weasel show August 20 at Warehouse Live.

• Texas Punk Treasure Chest also has the full 1996 7-inch by Houston hardcore band Janitor.

• Houston Public Library's downtown branch is taking a page out of Rocks Off's book for their summer programming by offering Rock Band available for play in the 4th Floor Teen Room every Tuesday from 2:30-7:30 p.m.

Attention local musicians, music bloggers and music organizations: have something that should be included in Magnolia City Mixtape? Leave a comment below or email brittanieshey (at) gmail (dot) com.
