As Addicks Reservoir Flows Over Spillway, Residents Fear Uncontrolled Release

Tuesday morning brought a new fear for Houstonians. Just as we began to breathe a sigh of relief that Tropical Storm Harvey was taking it down the road, hopefully letting the flooding begin to subside, we realized that there’s yet another threat. The Addicks and Barker Reservoirs, located 19 miles west of downtown, are at unprecedented levels and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates an uncontrolled release. Subdivisions north of Addicks Reservoir can expect to be affected and, as uncontrolled releases continue, water will continue to flow into the already taxed Buffalo Bayou.
