It’s never too early for kids to discover opera, especially when the introduction is being made by a darling cat named Alma. In the Houston Grand Opera’s Story Book Opera, Opera Cat, Alma’s owner is the great Madame Soso, the reigning diva of Italian opera. Alma loves singing as much as her famous musical mistress. One day, Madame Soso gets laryngitis and can’t sing a note; even worse, it’s opening night! Everyone is frantic, but happily Alma, the Opera Cat, is there to save the day. Tots will adore the sweet tale (and get a terrific music lesson without even realizing it). The performance, by Story Book Opera creator and singer/storyteller Sandy Campbell, starts at 11 a.m. at the McGovern- Stella Link branch, 7405 Stella Link. For information, call 832‑393‑2630. There’s a second performance at 4 p.m. at the Bracewell Neighborhood Branch, 9002 Kingspoint. For information, call 832‑393‑2580 or visit www.houstonlibrary.org. Free.
