Author Salman Rushdie is known for a very bad thing that happened to him (a certain fatwa) and a number of very good things that have happened to him (The Man Booker Prize, knighthood, Padma Lakshmi). In fact, his personal life is so scandalous and intriguing that his books have sometimes been forgotten in the blaze of his celebrity. Today, at the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series, he shifts the focus back to the literature, talking about his prolific career as essayist and novelist and his sweeping, magical-realism-infused tomes such as Midnightย’s Children, The Satanic Verses and Shalimar the Clown. Heย’ll also discuss his new book, Luka and the Fire of Life, a childrenย’s book about a boy on a quest for a mythological fire that will save his fatherย’s life, written for Rushdieย’s own son. 7:30 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana.
