Upcoming Houston Food Events: A Summer Beer & Cheese Pairing



On Wednesday, July 29 at 7 p.m., stamp your vegetarian passport with Sommelier Sean Beck at a Vegetarian Dinner at Backstreet Cafe, 1103 S. Shepherd. For $92 per person (plus tax and gratuity), enjoy a wine reception featuring appetizers and the wines of Portugal’s Vinho Verde, followed by five stellar wine-paired courses celebrating local veggies. Standouts include Texas Peach Crudo and Cauliflower “Poutine,” a vegetarian riff on the Canadian classic made with crispy cauliflower florets, cheese curds and charred vegetable gravy. D&T Drive Inn, 1307 Enid, will be hosting a Summer Beer and Cheese Pairing on Thursday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a special selection of Dogfish Head Beer and artisanal cheese from Houston Dairymaids. Pairings include Black & Blue with June's Joy Chèvre and Sixty-One with Alpine 1655 Gruyere. Tickets are available for advance purchase for $35.

Enjoy a Sparkling July Dinner at Ouisie’s Table, 3939 San Felipe, on Thursday, July 30. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., the restaurant is pairing bubbly wines from around the globe with foods it has prepared for five sumptuous courses. Indulge in dishes like Pan-seared Sea Bass or Smoked Duck Breast, paired with Tattinger Brut La Francaise Champagne; and Poached Pear with cream anglaise, paired with Banfi Rosa Regale Brachetto D’Acqui Charmat. The talented mixologists from Moving Sidewalk will be recreating some of their favorite craft cocktails on a Buffalo Bayou Cocktail Cruise on Tuesday, July 29. Head to the Wood Street Boat Launch, 1011 Wood, where you’ll take off on a cruise from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Guests will sip and learn how to make the special concoctions as they take in the downtown views from the Buffalo Bayou. Advance tickets are available for $50. 

On Tuesday, August 4 at 6 p.m., Liberty Kitchen & Oysterette, 4224 San Felipe, will be hosting a Pinot Noir Wine Dinner. For $95 per person (plus tax and gratuity), enjoy a four-course, wine-paired meal featuring dishes like Porcini Crusted Duck Breast with sweet corn pudding and Cinnamon & Chocolate Dipped Profiterole with orange-scented chantilly and vanilla bean anglaise.
