Upcoming Houston Food Events: Holiday Feasts & Anniversary Treats


To celebrate its fourth anniversary, Roost, 1972 Fairview, will be offering its Famous Fried Cauliflower dish — topped with bonito flakes, miso dressing, scallion and pine nuts — for just $4 (originally $9) from Saturday, December 12 through Saturday, December 19. 

Gr8 Plate Hospitality's Rollin’ Kitchen is turning into the Rollin’ Sleigh for the holidays. The truck will be visiting select office buildings and complexes from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15 and Thursday, December 17 to collect clothing, school supplies, household items, canned goods and toiletry donations for Boys & Girls Country, a nonprofit organization that provides a loving home for at-risk children ages five to 18. When guests make a donation to Boys & Girls Country, they will receive a $2 discount on their meal from The Rollin’ Kitchen. The Rollin' Sleigh will be parked at 3801 Kirby on December 15 and 1455 West Loop South on December 17.

Join Arnaldo Richards’ Picos, 3601 Kirby, for a festive Ugly Sweater Party (the uglier the better!) on Thursday, December 17 at 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy a cocktail hour followed by a four-course dinner paired with 100 percent agave Cuervo Tequilas at 7:30 p.m. The tackiest-sweater contest winner will be announced after dinner. To finish off the evening’s festivities, a specialty coffee and cordial bar will be open at 9 p.m. This event costs $99 per person, and reservations are required. On Thursday, December 17 at 7 p.m., join Spec’s fine wine buyer Bear Dalton at Charivari Restaurant, 2521 Bagby, for a holiday wine dinner. The multi-course meal will feature wines from Champagne, Jerez (Sherry), Burgundy and Bordeaux, as well as a 1965 Colheita Port, all paired with chef Johann Schuster’s holiday menu. Indulge in roasted quail over multigrain risotto, Black Angus hanger steak with marrow butter, and a salted caramel apple tart. Cost is $200 per person including a 5 percent discount for cash or check or $210.53 regular. All taxes and tips are included. Attendance at this dinner is strictly limited to 22 people. Star Wars fans will love the Alamo Drafthouse’s Galactic Gatherings held on Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ opening weekend – Saturday, December 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Mason Park, 531 South Mason; and Sunday, December 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Vintage Park, 114 Vintage Park. Enjoy themed menu items including Jabba Critter Fritters, Yoda Soba Salad and Wookie Wasaka Berry Crepes, plus drink specials like the Tatooine Sunset or the Gold Membrosia; There will also be costume contests, games and giveaways, a chance to get your photo taken with Santa Vader (he's exactly who you think he is) and some other fun surprises. 

The Sandy Clause Hawaiian Luau will take place at the Washington MAX’s Wine Dive, 4720 Washington, on Monday, December 21 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets ($105 including tax and gratuity) include five Hawaiian-themed courses paired with five wines/beers. For an extra $25, guests can upgrade their wine pairings to the “You Make Me Want to Hula” option.
