New York Chef Hong Thaimee Returns to Houston for a Thai Pop-Up Dinner and More

When Chiang Mai-raised New York City-based chef Hong Thaimee agreed to do a pop-up dinner at Paper Co. Cafe earlier this year, she had no idea how massive the turnout would be. Indeed, so hot were her pop-up dinners that they sold out to the tune of 180-plus people per night. In fact, so many people wanted tickets to her family-style, multi-course pop-up dinners that Paper Co. had to add an extra second seating of 60 to accommodate demand.

This coming week, Thai food lovers will have another chance to taste Thaimee’s authentic Thai cooking. The Thai chef, who has worked under famed Michelin-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and whose restaurant, Ngam, was named Best Thai in NYC by the Village Voice in 2013, is returning to Houston as part of a book tour promoting her new cookbook, TRUE THAI: Real Flavors for Every Table

“I have a lot of friends and family in Houston, and after the overwhelming response and support I received during my last visit, coming back to Houston was a no-brainer,” Thaimee said via phone interview. “Paper Co., especially, has been such a big supporter that I wanted it to be a part of my book launch,” she added.

As last time, Thaimee will be doing two pop-up dinners at Paper Co, scheduled for this coming Monday October 19 and Tuesday October 20. Additionally, she is scheduled to make an appearance on Great Day Houston, and will be signing books and overseeing a private hands-on cooking class at Urban Chefs.

“The menu for the pop-up dinners at Paper Co. will be served family style. All of the dishes are in my cookbook and come from my hometown, Chiang Mai,” says Thaimee. “Everyone will go home with a lovingly signed copy of my cookbook,” she adds, a smile in her voice.
